Anna Wilson reminds us that NRENs were the first ISPs in Europe and describes how their work has had impacts far beyond research, on many different communities that use the internet. This talk discusses some of the impact the internet has had on the LGBT community, and how this continues to change. Maria Farrell says the Internet of Things is not good news for everyone; it can exacerbate problems such as ever-reducing civil liberties and ever-increasing inequality. She will look behind the hype at how the IoT and aligned technologies and practices will affect the way we live, and also present some opportunities to mitigate its harms.
