Is stakeholder management in a National Research and Education Network
(NREN) fundamentally different from that of a traditional corporate
business? This session explores what distinguishes NREN stakeholder
management from corporate models. While businesses often optimise for
customers, shareholders, and market competition, NRENs must balance
consensus-building, public value, shared governance, and community
engagement, often across national and international boundaries. The
session will examine how we as NRENs navigate the tension between
service delivery and community ownership, align Sales-like activities
with Procurement realities, and engage our constituency as active
participants rather than passive customers.
