Description
eScience integrates BigData, computational Science, the potential to share, exchange and experiment, and the potential to use the e-infrastructure as a whole, beyond grids, clouds and HPC. This makes eScience a very versatile new and all-encompassing concept.
The question is now how do we make this potential to share, exchange and experiment into ordinary research practice? This session will present the challenges and potentials met by the archaeology research community since the Valetta treaty was introduced in 1992. This treaty deals with the protection, preservation and scientific research of archeology heritage in Europe and (in theory) holds potential to rewrite history, however, its potential for data sharing is challenged by national infrastructures. Followed by the archeologists challenges and potentials, this session will present todays largest data sharing initiative in Europe, i.e. the European Open Science Cloud initiative (EOSC), alongside the Collaborative Data Infrastructure (CDI) initiated by EUDAT, which aims to cover data management functions and policies in a set of concrete implementations of services.
